Israeli Air Force bombs Gaza buildings

The Israeli air force struck at least two buildings in Gaza City in the early hours this morning in an apparent response to a raid across the Gaza-Israel border by Palestinian militants on Saturday.

Internal violence between the rival Palestinian factions also simmered in the Gaza Strip, with at least two killed over the weekend.

An Israeli Army spokeswoman said the air force attacked one building used by Islamic Jihad and another building, which she described as a weapons-producing plant belonging to Fatah. Responsibility for Saturday’s raid was jointly claimed by Islamic Jihad and the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades, a militia nominally affiliated with the mainstream secularist Fatah faction headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Palestinian medics said three locations had been hit and described them as a study center and a charitable association, run by Islamic Jihad, and a privately owned metal workshop. Seven civilians were injured, according to Dr. Muawiya Hassanein, head of emergency services in the Palestinian Health Ministry.
